{"id":2612,"date":"2010-02-12T23:42:56","date_gmt":"2010-02-13T06:42:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/astrowin.org\/rffriends\/wpx\/?p=2612"},"modified":"2010-02-14T21:10:17","modified_gmt":"2010-02-15T04:10:17","slug":"eyes-to-see-what-is-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/astrowin.org\/rffriends\/wpx\/?p=2612","title":{"rendered":"EYES TO SEE WHAT IS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A Science Lesson\u00a0in an Art Museum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Sun moves into a different sign of the zodiac every month, giving us twelve opportunities in a year to observe\u00a0a zodiacal sign in\u00a0its truest expression, yet most of us sleep through what could be one of the richest experiences of our lives.\u00a0 Why?\u2014because we have not trained our eyes to see.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Every person who possesses a basic, even very limited, understanding of astrological concepts can be observant of how a sign\u2019s characteristics \u201cshine forth\u201d in all facets of our lives during the month when the Sun enters that sign\u2019s thirty-degree segment of the heavens. \u00a0\u00a0What kinds of things happen right under our noses during these 30 +\/- days that give testimony to\u00a0a divine order of existence? \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We may begin with the seasons, since the tropical zodiac is measured by the earth\u2019s revolution around the great orb of the Sun.\u00a0 Without fail, there will be seasonal phenomena to observe.\u00a0 How can we not notice that it snows and blows cold in January\/Capricorn in the northern latitudes, but it does not snow in July\/Cancer?\u00a0 In the southern\u00a0hemisphere it\u2019s the opposite, but in both hemispheres\u00a0summer\u00a0and winter solstices bring extremes of climate.\u00a0 Similarly, as a sign and its opposite differ, they also share many of the same qualities.\u00a0 Cancer and Capricorn are water and earth signs, respectively,\u00a0that share a cardinal modality.\u00a0 While one hemisphere has summer the other has winter, but both are cardinal by sign and both at extremes of climate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Although astrologically we often associate properties\u00a0and phenomena with seasons, as determined by the inclination of the earth on its axis, neither these seasons, nor this inclination, nor the phase of the Moon, can be the single &#8220;causative determinant&#8221; of happenings on earth.\u00a0\u00a0Other overall &#8220;causative&#8221; agents, including sidereal and planetary influences, are the broader, more far-reaching \u201cseasonal\u201d or cyclic producers (not necessarily causes) of effects.\u00a0 We must remember the hermetic axiom, \u201cas above, so below; as below, so above\u201d in all of its inclusive and exclusive implications\u2014or from a 360\u00b0 perspective, as without &#8211; so within; as within &#8211; so without, while we discriminate between correlation and cause.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Phenomena (noteworthy developments) more subtle than seasons occur with\u00a0somewhat the same predictability as seasons,\u00a0and we can observe them if we are big enough and smart enough to see.\u00a0 First, we memorize a few keywords, open our eyes, and engage our minds (and hearts).\u00a0 Second, we look impartially in every direction to observe manifest &#8220;causes and consequences&#8221; (actually evidential correlations)\u00a0of the forces or energies, both obvious and subtle, in our daily lives and in the world around us.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2613\" style=\"width: 203px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/astrowin.org\/rffriends\/wpx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Drinking-in-the-Moon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2613\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2613\" title=\"Drinking in the Moon\" src=\"https:\/\/astrowin.org\/rffriends\/wpx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Drinking-in-the-Moon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"193\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2613\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Drinking in the Moon<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In terms of the heavenly bodies, we associate those closest to the earth and closest to our Sun with very observable or obvious (yet transitory)\u00a0phenomena.\u00a0 The more distant heavenly bodies, those\u00a0we consider to be transcendental, usually produce more subtle (yet profound) manifestations.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 With that introduction in mind, please join me as I meet a friend for lunch and a visit to the Chazen Museum of Art.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 She and I had our choice of tables, and we chose one by the sunny window with a view of the rushing traffic and the travelers on foot.\u00a0 Much to our surprise, our waiter explained that the restaurant would be closing its doors permanently at the end of this very day.\u00a0 Truly\u2014this was an opportunity that if not taken would never have\u00a0returned.\u00a0\u00a0 The pizza was delicious\u2014the conversation both serious and light-hearted and\u00a0all of it absorbing enough to cause us to nearly forget that the next thing we had agreed to do was visit the art museum.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 As we left the lame-duck restaurant, we walked in the cool wintry air briskly past an eclectic array of shops along State Street, the mile-long route between Capitol Square and the University of Wisconsin campus.\u00a0 Once a thoroughfare, but in recent decades a limited-access pedestrian mall, it took us to the newly-named Chazen Museum of Art. Currently under construction to double its size, the protective barriers that we encountered forced us to reconsider our approach, but we soon found one of its two main entrances accessible and entered into the welcoming warm airy expanse.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What will we see that is new?\u00a0 Filled with the wonderful spontaneity (her Aries Sun and my Aries Moon) of Sunday\u2019s decision to visit the museum, we eagerly read the posting of the current traveling exhibit, \u201cContemporary Mechanical Sculpture.\u201d \u2026 ???&#8230; \u00a0Well, that took the air out of my balloon.\u00a0 \u201cThat doesn\u2019t sound very appealing,\u201d I said.\u00a0 Nevertheless, Aries Sun led the way, eager to find out about machines while I at least enjoyed being in close proximity to renaissance, post renaissance, and modern paintings and real sculpture.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The exhibit drew us in and much to my surprise delighted and entertained us so thoroughly that it left us with only a little time and inclination to visit the museum&#8217;s other collections. The exhibit\u2019s brochure informed visitors:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 While on vacation in 1989, metal-smith Michael Croft wandered into a dimly lit arcade in <\/em><em>London<\/em><em>\u2019s <\/em><em>Covent Garden<\/em><em> district.\u00a0 He was greeted by a life-sized moving skeleton.\u2026\u2026then.found himself surrounded by an idiosyncratic group of finely crafted mechanical sculptures that sprang into action at the turn of a crank. These devices, made of wood, wire, tin, and paint, plus various configurations of cams, gears, and ratchets\u2014perform absurd and witty acts.\u00a0 An altered reality comes alive, one where chickens test evolutionary theories, tigers experience writer\u2019s block, and Icarus catches himself flying too close to the sun with his zipper undone.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>There\u2019s more: A \u201cMan Drinking in the Moon,\u201d \u201cLevitation on Stool\u201d (without strings or wires), and a Turtle on a Fencepost.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2614\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/astrowin.org\/rffriends\/wpx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Tiger.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2614\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2614\" title=\"Tiger\" src=\"https:\/\/astrowin.org\/rffriends\/wpx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Tiger-300x262.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/astrowin.org\/rffriends\/wpx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Tiger-300x262.jpg 300w, https:\/\/astrowin.org\/rffriends\/wpx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/Tiger.jpg 371w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2614\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Early Bird Gets the Worm<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In my favorite: &#8220;Great Tongue From Above&#8221; by Neil Hardy, an anteater pokes its long tongue into the subterranean tunnels of an ant hill, and the little ants (made from silver wire), unaware of the tongue&#8217;s source, think it&#8217;s an angry god they must appease with brandy and cognac. As the crank turns, the ant characters\u2014Prophet of The Tongue, The High Priest, and Keeper of the Bucket, to name a few\u2014scurry about. One lowly ant offers intermittent cups of libation, saving them all from destruction.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0By popular acclaim, the piece de resistance: \u201cThe Flasher,\u201d entertains shamelessly.\u00a0 Seeing a bald guy in tennis shoes and a trench coat, you wonder \u2026\u2026??\u2026\u2026\u2026.and you\u2019re willing to find out, so as he opens the flaps of his coat, you look, and a blinding flash startles your eyes. If you dare to stare, you&#8217;ll discover it comes from a little camera, strategically placed.\u00a0 You can see a video clip of The Flasher in action on the Chazen Museum of Art\u2019s website.\u00a0 It requires QuickTime player, and you can download that by following the prompts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chazen.wisc.edu\/exhibitions\/Automata_video_clips.htm\">http:\/\/www.chazen.wisc.edu\/exhibitions\/Automata_video_clips.htm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Whimsical, zany, thought-provoking curiosities, the mechanical sculptures\u00a0that were too delicate to run constantly, the Chazen showcased in big acrylic-glass boxes.\u00a0 Video monitors displayed the movements and machinations of each.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 On the date of our expedition, February 10, 2010, we had met a few minutes after 1:00 p.m.\u00a0 Not only was the\u00a0Sun in\u00a0Aquarius, but Mercury, Neptune, Chiron and Venus were\u00a0also in the sign of the water bearer.\u00a0 These planets\u00a0had\u00a0culminated at the Midheaven and were in\u00a0the ninth house of higher education.\u00a0\u00a0Uranus, the ruling planet of Aquarius\u00a0was\u00a0rising in the tenth.\u00a0\u00a0 Although we didn&#8217;t plan it this way, and it is only now noted, astrological indicators could not have been much\u00a0better for such an outing.\u00a0 \u00a0Only in retrospect did I realize the value of these moments for finding Aquarian principles in a very ordinary experience.\u00a0 Let\u2019s take a look at Aquarian keywords, and the Sun\u2019s, to determine if they describe the adventure.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Sun:<\/strong>\u00a0 individuality, what one really is, vitality, will, chief ambition, those in authority, men.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nature of the sign, Aquarius: <\/strong>\u00a0Air = intellectual and social.\u00a0 Fixed = stable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Basic keywords for Aquarius:<\/strong>\u00a0 humanitarianism, science, new systems, corporations, universality, universal friendship<\/p>\n<p><strong>Basic keywords for the ninth house:<\/strong>\u00a0 higher mind, religion, law, long journeys.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keywords for Aquarius\u2019 ruling planet, Uranus:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Awakener, altruism, inventiveness, originality, sudden action, unconventionality<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keywords for Aquarius&#8217; co-ruler, Saturn:<\/strong>\u00a0 contraction, persistence,caution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keywords for the other planets in Aquarius:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mercury:<\/strong>\u00a0 reason, self-expression, speaking, writing, gestures<\/p>\n<p><strong>Venus:<\/strong>\u00a0 attraction, cohesion, coalition, personal love, social instincts and activities, art ornamentation, beauty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neptune<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0 superphysical entities, divinity, occultism, knowledge from sources above reason (entities)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s possible to find many more valid keywords, but for brevity, only the basic keywords from the RF\u2019s <em>Astrological Keyword System <\/em>are given.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For <em>universality<\/em>, my friend and I are from different cultures, and we were enjoying that which can be universally enjoyed and appreciated by almost anyone.\u00a0 Leo, the sign opposite from Aquarius, rules children and <em>creative play<\/em>.\u00a0 As it turned out, the mechanical sculptures were nothing if not playfully whimsical.\u00a0 Uranus keywords, <em>Inventive, original, and unconventional<\/em> thoroughly describe the exhibit.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Uranus in the tenth house put Aquarius\u2019 ruling planet in the house of <em>profession<\/em>, <em>standing in the community<\/em>, and the <em>father<\/em>.\u00a0 In the sign, Pisces, it carries the characteristics of that sign, <em>sensitivity to superphysical influences, sense of unity with all life, mysticism, and ripe destiny.<\/em>\u00a0 There was definitely other-worldly quality in the themes of the mechanical sculptures.\u00a0 At the same time they\u00a0were relevant\u00a0to the common universal experiences of life.\u00a0 \u00a0The ninth house position of most of the planets indicates the higher mind and religion (The Tongue From Above).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Furthermore, the planets Uranus and Neptune are in mutual reception.
