PENNE AND PROSELYTIZING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Filled with enthusiasm, newcomers to the Rosicrucian Philosophy\u00a0usually seek\u00a0like-minded friends from among their relatives and\u00a0acquaintances, and when their efforts are met with indifference or even contempt, they may try to\u00a0convert their old buddies\u00a0from hetero-ray school to heretic-ray school.\u00a0 This\u00a0never works.\u00a0 Heindel gave a cautionary, \u201cDo not attempt to convince any one against his will or to proselytize\u2026..\u201d \u2013 in Letters to Students<\/span>, under the heading: Unselfish Service to Others<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Amy Dickinson, the advice columnist, commented\u00a0in a recent letter, that she had posted on her computer: \u201cUnsolicited Advice is Always Self-Serving<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0Along that line, years ago somebody said to yours truly: \u201cYou don\u2019t have to pull a chain to get an opinion out of you<\/strong>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWell\u2026\u2026!\u201d<\/p>\n

The serious introspection that followed and the experiences gained from raising two children strengthened\u00a0her resolve to never offer an unsolicited opinion — unless her chain was pulled.\u00a0 This resolve weakens now and again.<\/p>\n

Imagine\u00a0her surprise when\u00a0her daughter-in-law wrote:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hi, <\/em><\/p>\n

The boys made a surprising announcement tonight at the dinner table.\u00a0 They both said they want salads from now on for supper.\u00a0 They do not want chicken or beef.\u00a0 Fish, milk and eggs are o.k<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

This is fine with both Mark and me, except I am going to have to learn how to make meals without meat being the main course.\u00a0 Do you know of any great starter cook books on how to become a vegetarian or a great salad cook book?\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Also, how do I make sure they are getting enough protein?<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Any help in this area would be appreciated.<\/em><\/p>\n

True to form and\u00a0her impetuous lack of restraint,\u00a0she bombarded her daugher-in-law with recipes, including the one below.\u00a0 It’s a great meal for children and easy for mom, and the asparagus is in season.<\/p>\n

PENCILS (PENNE) and ASPARAGUS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just heat salted water to boiling while you clean and cut fresh asparagus into 1 1\/2-inch lengths.\u00a0 When the water boils, toss in some penne macaroni.\u00a0 After\u00a0the macaroni\u00a0cooks for a few minutes and is almost tender, add the fresh asparagus.\u00a0 Then, you only need to boil it for a minute or two, because asparagus cooks very quickly.\u00a0 Drain the water, add a little butter, salt and pepper; and serve hot.\u00a0 Spread some peanut butter on multi-grain toast, cut a few tomato wedges,\u00a0and you have a very quick and nourishing meal.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tips:\u00a0 To\u00a0remove the pithy bottom ends from the asparagus,\u00a0snap\u00a0them off by bending them.\u00a0 You\u00a0can save the “green” water that the asparagus was boiled in for soup stock.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
