Found by God Tonight<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \"\"<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

My Salvation Army rocking chair\u2026 a friend of many years,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

creaks in just the way it should<\/p>\n

with a sound that brings a certain calm instead of annoyance.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a rightness about this sound and how it joins the music of evening tide\u2026<\/p>\n

hummingbird bedtime chatter,<\/p>\n

howling canines at wandering coyotes,<\/p>\n

distant railroad cars intersecting highway noises,<\/p>\n

while Mesquite and Palo Verde branches dance in a desert\u2019s hushed breeze.<\/p>\n

Needing to be found by God tonight,<\/p>\n

I went out on the patio to listen for God to call my name,<\/p>\n

Praying for life\u2019s new revelation\u2026 anxious about next steps\u2026 wondering why I\u2019m here\u2026<\/p>\n

Having been given a second chance some twelve years ago.<\/p>\n

Regardless that continued efforts defy fulfillment,<\/p>\n

Or that dreams disperse in the light of day,<\/p>\n

If God would speak to His people of Biblical times\u2026 all by name,<\/p>\n

Perhaps I would be noticed, sitting here, in unwavering rocking fashion,<\/p>\n

Waiting\u2026 always waiting\u2026 for God\u2019s call to me.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, Lord,\u201d said Abraham<\/p>\n

\u201cHere I am,\u201d spoke Moses<\/p>\n

\u201cYour servant is listening,\u201d responded Samuel<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to your word,\u201d replied Blessed Mary.<\/p>\n

And I?<\/p>\n

\u201cLord God of All Creation<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know how to receive the unfathomable love of You knowing my name.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut tonight is different.<\/p>\n

I want to\u2026 need to\u2026 allow myself to be found by You.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes Lord, here I am, your servant is listening, according to your word.\u201d<\/p>\n

I notice a bird perching on a telephone pole, some distance away.<\/p>\n

We stare in the same direction\u2026 westward,<\/p>\n

It seems we are both waiting for the cream-hued sunset to take its final bow for the evening.<\/p>\n

Suddenly, for no apparent reason, the bird takes flight in my direction<\/p>\n

And, in a matter of seconds, swoops disturbingly close overhead.<\/p>\n

It is a hawk\u2026<\/p>\n

Or has God adorned feathers to speak my name across tonight\u2019s sky and tell me of His love.<\/p>\n

Earlier lost in myriad concerns about future,<\/p>\n

I now rock in my Salvation Army chair a different rhythm\u2026<\/p>\n

One step closer to being found by God tonight, my heart sighs relief,<\/p>\n

As the earth closes this first day of Lent.<\/p>\n
